A pegboard is an easy solution for organizing your things at home. It provides a storage space and instant accessibility to your tools and equipment whether it is for your garage, workshop or even a roomful of scrapbooking materials. It is also versatile enough to rearrange in case you expand your collection of tools. And installing one is not an arduous feat. To help your further, here are some steps you can follow.

  1. Prepare the materials and tools. You will need a pegboard sheet, one that is cut to fit and pegboard hooks. You can also measure up your wall first where you plan to have the pegboard installed so you can have the sheet measured up to that size. You will also need a board preferably one that measures about one by 2 inch. And have the following tools at hand: stud finder, level, wood screws, power saw with small toothed blade, screw driver or power drill whoever is available and a felt tip marker.
  2. Make an estimate calculation of your tools weight. Your pegboard should be able to withstand it. In this regard, the choice of a board matters. In general, the thicker the board is the stronger your pegboard will be.
  3. Measure the size of the wall and cut your pegboard sheet accordingly. Use the power saw with small toothed blade to make the cut. You have to note the use of a saw with a small blade size to avoid an uneven or unattractive cut on the board.
  4. Find the studs and mark a guide for the 1 by 2 inch board. It is important that you leave a space behind the pegboard because you will not be able to install it directly to the wall. The stud finder tool will help you locate the studs on your wall and use a marker to indicate the spot. Draw a horizontal mark which will serve as your guide for installing the 1 by 2 inch board. This board will serve as your pegboard’s foundation. Now for added stability and strength, you may also use another board of 1 by 2 inch vertically against the stud. This will depend greatly on the size of the pegboard you are installing.
  5. Install the 1 by 2 inch board. After making the initial markings, you are now ready to mount the 1 by 2 inch board. To do so, use the wood screws. Follow the markings as a guide.
  6. Drill holes for the pegboard. Now that the 1 by 2 inch board is installed you can drill holes on it for mounting the pegboard sheet against it. To make an accurate measurement, hold the pegboard against the installed 1 by 2 board, mark the spots and use the power drill to make the holes.
  7. Mount the pegboard sheet. You are then ready to install the pegboard hooks and mount the board itself against the framed wall. A quick tip in choosing the pegboard hooks: make sure that you pick the right size o hooks that will go with your pegboard. Some hooks are made for pegboards with a specific size.
